The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. (Mrs) Rita A. Dickson on Monday, 16th May, 2022 led a team of University Management members to pay a working visit to the Institute of Distance Learning (IDL).
The purpose of the visit was to afford the team, the opportunity to know firsthand, the level of progress of works ongoing at the Institute. The team was met on their arrival by the Management of the Institute, led by the Director, Prof. M. G. Addo.
In his welcome remarks, the Director expressed happiness about the visit and said as part of efforts to put the Institute in better stead to operationalise its mandate of providing access to quality continuing, tertiary education and training through distance learning in Africa with the use of innovative distance learning technologies, the Institute embarked on the setting up of state-of-the-art teaching and recording studios some few months ago. This was to augment the Institute’s infrastructure base to deliver seamless online facilitation.
Prof. Addo conducted the team around the 23 new teaching studios and instructional design spaces at the Casely-Hayford Building and the Evans Anfom Building (E-Learning Centre). The Director informed the team that physical construction was almost completed and awaiting the equipment installation and testing phase. He hoped the studios would be ready for use in the second semester of the 2021/2022 academic year.
On her part, the Vice-Chancellor expressed happiness about the progress of work. She said the COVID-19 Pandemic and its consequential restrictions prompted all stakeholders to invest more in online technologies. She was delighted the Institute was already setting the pace in online deliveries and augmenting its infrastructure in that direction.
The Vice-Chancellor’s team also visited the University Information Technology Services Unit (UITS) to inspect the progress of work on the setting up of a new ultra-modern data centre for the University.
The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by Mr. Andrews K. Boateng (Registrar), Mr. Yaw Nimo-Baffour (Finance Officer), Mr. Moses Tsiquaye (Internal Auditor), Prof. Jerry John Kponyo (Dean – Quality Assurance and Planning Office), Dr. Jimmy Nkrumah (Director of Works and Physical Development), Mr. Kojo Safo-Kantanka (Chief University Architect), and Prof. Eric Appau Asante (Director, E-Learning Centre).
