The Institute of Distance Learning (IDL) at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has donated 20 brand-new desktop computers to the KNUST Primary School, bringing smiles and renewed hope to the Management and staff of the school.
Valued at over GH₵130,000, the donation comes at a crucial time, as the school’s computer laboratories have long struggled with inadequate equipment. The gesture marks a significant boost to the school’s ICT infrastructure and reaffirms IDL’s commitment to supporting basic education.
Speaking at the presentation, the Institute Registrar, Mr. Owusu-Ansah Debrah (Esq.) described the donation as an investment in the future. “This is an investment in the children, the future leaders of our nation. We believe these computers will inspire curiosity, innovation, and learning,” he stated.
The Headmistress of KNUST Basic Schools, Rev. Mrs. Irene Owusua Nkansah, received the computers on behalf of the school and expressed heartfelt gratitude for the timely support. “From today, IDL and KNUST Basic School are united, we are deeply grateful,” she remarked. She assured that the donated equipment would be effectively used to enhance the teaching and learning of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Rev. Mrs. Nkansah also recalled that the first set of computers, palm-tops, provided to the school’s ICT laboratory were donated by the Institute of Distance Learning.
A staff member, overwhelmed with appreciation, likened the school to Oliver Twist: “And like Oliver always does, we ask for more. So, we are hoping and praying that very soon you come back and add more to it.”
The event was marked by excitement, gratitude, and a shared hope that the bond between IDL and the KNUST Basic School will continue to grow stronger in the years ahead.
