Professor Anthony Andrews, newly appointed Director of the Institute of Distance Learning, conducted his first official visit to the Sekondi-Takoradi Learning Centre on Saturday, January 04, 2025, marking a significant transition from his previous role as Deputy Director.
During the visit, Professor Andrews met with staff members to discuss his strategic vision for the institute and gather insights about the centre's operations and challenges. Acting Western Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Charles Owusu-Antwi, formally introduced Professor Andrews to the assembled staff.
In his address, Professor Andrews commended the staff for their dedication and outlined several key initiatives for the centre's development. These include exploring new revenue generation opportunities, enhancing the centre's social media presence, and implementing staff development programmes through seminars and workshops to improve client service delivery.
The Director emphasized the importance of staff collaboration, requesting their support as "eyes and ears on the ground" to help achieve his objectives for the institute's growth.
Staff members raised several operational concerns during the meeting, including vehicle maintenance challenges, thesis submission processes, communication flow issues, poor telecommunication infrastructure, and the need for dedicated healthcare facilities for centre personnel.
Mr. Owusu-Antwi, speaking on behalf of the staff, expressed gratitude for the Director's commitment to addressing these challenges and his vision for the centre's future development.
