Biography
Dr. Anthony Andrews is a distinguished Professor in the Department of Materials Engineering, within the College of Engineering at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, Ghana. He holds both a Master's degree and Doctoral degree in Materials Engineering from the renowned University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering from KNUST.
With over 15 years of exemplary service at the University, Prof. Andrews has amassed a wealth of experience in teaching, research, and community engagement. His impressive administrative career includes serving as the Head of the Department of Materials Engineering, representing the College on the Academic Board, and contributing his expertise as a member of various College and Faculty Boards.
Prof. Andrews has demonstrated exceptional commitment to academic excellence through his role as an external examiner for PhD and MPhil theses at several renowned universities, both within Ghana and internationally, including the University of Ghana, Legon, the University of the Witwatersrand, the University of Johannesburg, Vaal University of Technology, and Tshwane University of Technology in South Africa. Furthermore, he has been entrusted with the responsibility of serving as an external assessor for academic and research staff promotions at prestigious institutions such as the University of Ghana, Legon, Ho Technical University, Accra Technical University, the Centre for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Ashesi University, and the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission.
Committed to continuous professional development, Prof. Andrews has attended numerous workshops and training sessions, including those focused on Project Management Essentials, KNUST Summer Schools, KNUST Masterclass Content Creation, and Tribocorrosion Techniques.
Prof. Andrews' research interests span a diverse range of materials-related fields, including materials synthesis, corrosion, surface modifications, physical metallurgy, waste management, and the development of ceramic-based composites. His scholarly contributions have been recognized through numerous publications in highly respected international journals, such as the International Journal of Applied Ceramic Technology (Wiley), Discover Nano (Springer), Cleaner Materials (Elsevier), Water, Air, & Soil Pollution (Springer), Thermal Science and Engineering Progress (Elsevier), Open Ceramics (Elsevier), Journal of Cleaner Production (Elsevier), Materials Chemistry and Physics (Elsevier), and Engineering Failure Analysis (Elsevier). Prof. Andrews has also demonstrated his commitment to the academic community by serving as a peer reviewer for several international journals, including Clay and Clay Minerals (Springer), Journal of Bio and Tribocorrosion (Springer), Anti-Corrosion Methods and Materials (Emerald), and Journal of Applied Ceramic Technology (Wiley).
In recognition of his scholarly excellence, Prof. Andrews has been appointed as a Guest Editor for the Scientific African Journal (Elsevier) and as a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Science and Technology (JUST). He was previously appointed as the Deputy Director for the Institute of Distance Learning and, most recently, has been entrusted with the esteemed role of Director of the Institute of Distance Learning at KNUST. This appointment is a testament to his exceptional leadership skills and commitment to the University’s academic pursuits.
