  • Published: 09 Apr 2026

The Institute of Distance Learning (IDL) held an Examination Officers’ Workshop on Wednesday, 5th February 2026, at the ICT Laboratory in the Casely Hayford Building.

The workshop brought together Examination Officers from various departments to strengthen examination administration and improve academic coordination.

The workshop was opened by the Institute Registrar, Mr. OwusuAnsah Debrah, who welcomed participants and highlighted the need for continuous capacity building.

He noted that “…the dynamic nature of academic administration requires officers to regularly update their skills in examination management, student support, and the use of digital systems.”

The Deputy Director of the Institute, Prof. Christopher Antwi, led sessions on effective examination administration, stressing the importance of efficiency, accuracy, and accountability.

Participants were also taken through the Student Information System (SIS) by Mr. Emmanuel MfumMensah of the University’s Information and Technology Systems (UITS).

The practical session covered course assignments, lecturer access to virtual classrooms, student registration schedules, and the link between fee status and system access.

Members of the Institute’s Examinations and Timetable Committee discussed examination schedules and responsibilities, encouraging departments to plan early for mid-semester examinations. Graduation issues, including outstanding fees and certificate updates for supplementary students, were also addressed.

In addition, the workshop also highlighted the Professional Add‑Ons Programme, which seeks to expose IDL students to industry‑relevant skills and practices.

Departments were encouraged to actively contribute ideas to strengthen and expand the initiative.

In his closing remarks, the Deputy Director thanked participants for their active involvement and urged them to apply the knowledge gained. He stated, “The effectiveness of our examination processes depends largely on the commitment of examination officers, and I encourage you to use the insights from this workshop to improve service delivery to both students and faculty.”
