The Institute of Distance Learning (IDL) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has successfully launched the maiden edition of its Professional Add‑On Seminar Series, a major initiative aimed at enhancing the professional readiness, industry exposure, and employability of its students.
The two‑day virtual seminar, held on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th February 2026, recorded a remarkable participation of over 9,200 students, making it one of the most highly patronized student‑development programmes in the Institute’s recent years.
Reintroduced under IDL’s renewed strategic vision to produce graduates equipped for today’s dynamic job market, the Professional Add‑On Seminar Series connects students directly with top industry players, offering practical insights that complement classroom instruction.

The seminar is part of IDL’s long‑term agenda to bridge the gap between academic learning and the realities of the workplace.
The Director of the Institute, Prof. Anthony Andrews, in his remarks, emphasised the uniqueness and importance of the initiative, stating:
“These Professional Add‑Ons are special seminars organised for our students to expose them to real industry practice. We invite experienced industry players to share perspectives that complement what is taught in the classroom. This ensures that our students are not only academically prepared but professionally grounded for the world of work.”
The maiden edition brought together some of Ghana’s most respected professionals and institutional leaders, who shared expertise across various programme areas. Speakers included:
and several other notable professionals and industry experts.
Students joined these engagements through 12 programme‑based groups, ensuring relevance, deeper interaction, and tailored industry exposure.
Students commended the seminar for offering practical, industry‑aligned knowledge, clarity on career expectations, and meaningful guidance on professional pathways.
The successful rollout of the inaugural Professional Add‑On Seminar Series affirms IDL’s commitment to expanding industry partnerships and strengthening student development through relevant, future‑oriented learning experiences.
