The Institute of Distance Learning (IDL), KNUST, began the 2025/2026 academic year on a high note as staff, national service personnel, and student leaders united to deliver an exceptionally organised and warm reopening experience for fresh and returning students across all six centres of the Institute.

In the weeks leading up to reopening day, the Institute held a series of preparatory meetings at the various centres to brief staff and national service personnel on the day's activities and the roles assigned to each team member.
As a mark of institutional identity and to aid easy recognition, IDL-branded T-shirts were printed and distributed to all staff and national service personnel ahead of the day.
On the day, staff reported as early as 6:00 a.m. to set up their designated centres, ensuring that everything was in order well before students began arriving. By 7:00 a.m., all centres were fully operational and welcoming students who had begun streaming onto campus.

The uniformed teams were immediately recognisable, offering a sense of structure, warmth, and professionalism from the very first moment students arrived.
Students were assisted with locating their classrooms, with staff cross-referencing class allocation sheets and timetables to provide accurate directions.

Students who appeared confused were personally escorted to the nearest routes and junctions.
Teams at all centres attended promptly to all enquiries, with biometric registration emerging as the most frequently asked topic, students were duly informed that the exercise would be scheduled and communicated through official channels at a later date.
The Director of the Institute, Prof. Anthony Andrews indicated that “…the feedback received from fresh students across all six centres was truly impressive, a testament to the dedication and teamwork of IDL staff and student leaders."
In a notable show of institutional commitment, selected members of IDL management undertook visits to centres outside Kumasi — including Tamale, Takoradi, Adenta, Kwabenya, and McCarthy Hills — to monitor activities on the ground and provide direct support to staff.

Their presence reinforced the Institute's resolve to deliver a consistent and high-quality welcome experience at every location.
The Institute of Distance Learning Student Association (DLSA) leadership also played a vital role in the day's success.
Dressed in their own branded T-shirts, DLSA executives were present across all centres, offering incredible support to fresh students and helping to create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.
Their involvement was widely appreciated and reflected the strong community spirit that defines the IDL experience.
The overall feedback from fresh students was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing appreciation for the organisation, accessibility of staff, and the warmth with which they were received.
The Institute is proud of the seamless execution achieved through the collective effort of management, staff, national service personnel, and student leaders, and looks forward to an engaging and rewarding academic year ahead.
