IDL holds facilitators’ workshop ahead of 2025/2026 academic year

The Institute of Distance Learning (IDL) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has held a one-day facilitators’ workshop to prepare teaching staff for the 2025/2026 academic year.
 

The workshop, held on January 13, 2026 at the Amonoo-Neizer Conference Centre, focused on strengthening the quality of distance teaching and learning delivery.

Opening the session, the Director, Prof. Anthony Andrews praised facilitators for their contributions and urged them to prioritise continuous improvement in teaching practices. 

 

The Registrar, Mr. Owusu-Ansah Debrah presented the 2026 academic calendar and called on facilitators to adhere strictly to approved academic timelines.

The Deputy Director outlined expectations on facilitator conduct and professional standards, stressing
timely communication of teaching schedules, preparation of course materials and compliance with institutional policies, including mid-semester examination procedures.
 
 

IDL also introduced a new timetable interface, IDLEx, aimed at improving scheduling efficiency, and facilitators were taken through its use.

A presentation by the Quality Assurance Sub-Committee reported strong subject mastery and professionalism among facilitators, while reminding them to
observe appropriate dress codes.

Prof. John Boulard Forkuor led a session on online facilitation, introducing the OIDR framework: Overview, Instruction, Discussion, Reflection and Break as a model for strengthening virtual teaching engagements.

A question-and-answer session followed to address facilitators’ concerns.
 
 

Closing the workshop, the Director encouraged facilitators to adopt the IDL slide format, ensure biometric registration during facilitation sessions and embrace teamwork and continuous professional development.
