The Institute of Distance Learning (IDL), KNUST, on Thursday, 9th April 2026, successfully held the 9th Edition of its Fruit and Fitness Day, a flagship wellness event that took place concurrently at all centres of the Institute across the country.

For one memorable day, IDL staff nationwide stood up from their desks, moved their bodies, shared laughter, and celebrated healthy living together.
From Kumasi to Tamale, Accra to Takoradi, the Institute moved as one.

Offices opened not with paperwork, but with stretching, walking, music, and exercise. The event reinforced IDL’s strong commitment to staff well‑being, teamwork, and work–life balance.

At the Kumasi Campus, staff assembled in front of the Casely Hayford Building and walked energetically to the Paa Joe Sports Stadium amid drumming and songs.

Senior officers and staff walked side by side, danced in a jama circle, took part in aerobics, completed laps around the track, and went on to enjoy exciting games such as tug‑of‑war, lime‑and‑spoon races, table tennis, draughts, and card games.

The National Service Personnel emerged victorious in the tug‑of‑war, drawing loud cheers. The session ended with a refreshing fruit break, where staff shared oranges, bananas, pawpaw, and watermelon.

In the Tamale Centre, the day began calmly with chair Tai Chi before moving into aerobics and a lively indoor football game.
The activities promoted teamwork and energy, setting the tone for a productive discussion session that followed, where staff reviewed upcoming tasks in a relaxed and collaborative mood.
Across Accra’s three centres, the celebration of fitness was equally vibrant.
At Adenta, the Centre Coordinator spoke on the importance of personal health and self‑care before staff participated in aerobics, jogging, and stretching led by a professional instructor.

At Kwabenya, a National Service Person led an intense workout including squats, cardio drills, and a challenging hill run, with staff, National Service Personnel, and security officers exercising together as one team.

At McCarthy, staff enjoyed light aerobics, stretching exercises, and a shared fruit session in a calm and friendly environment.
At the Takoradi Centre, staff engaged in brisk walking, dancing, indoor games, and relaxed interactions, creating a joyful atmosphere that strengthened bonds among colleagues.

A common highlight across all centres was the shared fruit break. The simple act of resting together and eating healthy fruits reinforced the message that good health is the foundation of effective work, not a reward after it.
As staff returned to work later in the day, the energy was unmistakable.
Smiles lingered, conversations flowed easily, and the Institute felt more connected than ever.
The 9th Edition of the IDL Fruit and Fitness Day once again proved that, no matter the distance between centres, the Institute of Distance Learning moves forward together.
