The Institute of Distance Learning (IDL) had its turn of this year’s University scheduled Matriculation Ceremony on Saturday, 5th October 2019 in Accra, Bolgatanga, Ho, Koforidua, Kumasi, Sunyani, Takoradi, Tamale and the Tema Centres.
Matriculation is a ceremony that marks the formal acceptance of students into the University as junior members in Statu Pupillari. During the ceremony, fresh students swore to observe the regulations of the University, obey those to whom their obedience is required, study diligently, seek the truth and promote the good of the University at all times.
In an address delivered on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, he said, “as distance learning students, you may seem far away from the main activities of the University. That should not be the case in this era of technology. I implore all of you to constantly visit the website of the University and that of IDL so you can update yourselves with all important notices and activities that may require your attention.” He further said that, “our Virtual Classroom (V-Class) platform provides a lot of resources to facilitate your studies. Resources such as course materials, lecture videos, supplementary reading materials, PowerPoint slides, assignments, discussions etc. are available on the V-Class platform. Please make maximum use of it at your convenience”.
IDL received 8,562 applications out of which 7,503 were qualified. Out of this number, the Institute was able to admit 300 Diploma students, 2,718 undergraduate students and 3,119 postgraduate students; made up of 3,811 (62%) males and 2,326 (38%) females. These exclude the Institute’s special MPhil programme for lecturers of the Technical Universities and specialisation programme for the Commonwealth Executive Master of Business Administration (CEMBA) students.
This year, fresh students that attended the Matriculation programme were rather verified biometrically so to avoid the use of matriculation cards and any form of impersonation. Management of the Institute wishes all our cherished fresh students, a happy study period with us.
