On Wednesday 19th March, 2025, the Institute of Distance Learning (IDL) at KNUST proudly launched its inaugural Fruits and Fitness Day (FFD). Staff from all centres across the country donned their sporty gear, participated in engaging fitness activities, and relished a variety of delicious fruits.

Prof. Anthony Andrews, the Director of IDL, highlighted that this monthly event aims to promote fitness, health, and a positive work environment. "Let's stay fit, healthy, and productive together" he encouraged.

The event was designed to enhance the overall well-being of IDL staff. Held simultaneously across all IDL Centres in Ghana namely; Kumasi, Accra, Takoradi and Tamale.  Activities included a health walk, games, aerobics, and social interactions, culminating in the sharing of various fruits.

During the event, Dr. Charles Apprey, the Assistant Examinations Officer, educated staff on the importance of incorporating fruits into their diet. He noted that fruits are rich in fibre, which aids digestion and facilitates the absorption of essential nutrients. He also clarified a common misconception about fruit juice, stating that it should not be considered equivalent to whole fruit, especially when it is sieved to remove the fibre.
